This just in: Colin Cowherd is a jerk!
I wrote this yesterday while I couldn't get to Blogger, or my e-mail, or, you know, Google. It's basically a statement of the obvious, but I figure it's worth posting.
So, here's what you need to know about me: I dislike listening to music radio in my car because I end up having to switch from station to station as new songs come on and I dislike them. You know how it is. I also cannot stomach any of the other talk radio in my area, and by leaving my car radio on the local ESPNRadio affiliate, I don't miss out on Indians or Cavs games. I also spend a lot of time in my car after Mike & Mike in the Morning, but before The Dan Patrick Show* If you are at all familiar with the ESPNRadio programming schedule, you know that that means I end up listening to far more of The Herd With Colin Cowherd than is probably healthy, given my genetic propensity toward things like "high blood pressure," and "heart attacks," and "screaming, frothing rage."
For those of you not familiar with Colin Cowherd's brand of idiocy, Cowherd is infamous around the sports blogosphere for the following:
1. Stealing an entire blog post off the internet, reading it on the air, and not citing the lulz, because, you know, it's on the internet! Therefore I can pass it off as my own work!
2. For serious, getting his listeners to launch a DDoS attack on sports blog The Big Lead, causing the incredibly popular site to go down for around 36 hours.
3. Affecting a truly obnoxious "nerd voice" every time he feels it's important to make fun of people who think, perhaps, we ought to judge baseball players based on, you know, their actual stats as opposed to our gut feelings, however truthy** those gut feelings may be.
However, one complaint that is rarely if ever brought up when talking about what a terrible sports radio commentator Cowherd is?
Dude hates women. Hardcore in the bookstore.
So today I'm running some errands, tooling around in the car on my way out to the hardware store, and ESPNRadio comes back from commercial, and Oh shit. I didn't realize it was after 10am. That means Colin Cowherd is on. However, dude is talking about the series finale of The Sopranos, and I've been deeply entertained listening to people who don't think visual media like movies or TV are art bitching about the ending of the show*** all day. (Actually, I shouldn't bag on Golic, here. The disappointed view is fully valid, depending on what you're watching TV for.)
Anyway, so I decide, okay, I'll listen to Colin get himself all riled up about The Sopranos and then I'll go inside and pick up that ladder for my mom. Except then, I swear to freaking God, Cowherd starts talking about Men And Women and how Men are Different and Better than Women and says something to the effect of "You know, on 9/11, women were running out of the buildings, but men were running in."
... I hit my handy AM/FM button and listened to eighties music for the rest of my errands.
I am so freaking tired of Cowherd bagging on women. When he starts talking about how "some people just don't change," (a valid position to take when traditionally surly athletes sign with/get traded to another team) he ends up going onto a tangent about how you "don't marry the stripper." Because women who strip do it because they're cheating hussies, not because it's a way for a moderately attractive woman with an inability (due to school, other jobs, whatever) to work traditional 9-to-5 hours with no formal education. Nope, it's because strippers are bad people who shouldn't ever have a long-term committed relationship with someone.
Or there's, you know this entire excruciating segment, chronicled at Fire Joe Morgan.
And now women are cowardly and men run into collapsing buildings because they're Braver and Better than women. Not because men are more likely to be employed as rescue personnel because of their greater likelihood of passing the strength tests. Not because we, as a society, are more likely to value the work of men on that day than the work of women who surely also did their part to help the community as much as each individual was able. No, no, thank you for opening my eyes to the fact that men are Just Braver than me.
I am so sick of Colin Cowherd's incredible ability to remain on the air in spite of being a flaming misogynist, a plagiarist, and likely a criminal (for inciting the DDoS attack on air).
When are they going to fire this guy?
*Note that Mike and Mike, and Dan Patrick and Keith Olbermann are pretty much the only people worth listening to ESPNRadio for, although The B Show is occasionally amusing if you're ever in the car at three in the morning and there isn't some sort of wacky dance mix marathon going on on a music channel. I used to have an uneasy truce with Eric Kusilias at The Sports Bash, but he got moved over to NASCAR Now, and I dislike his replacement.
**Note to Firefox, "truthy" is too a word. Suck it.
***Note: I did not see the series finale. I do not watch the Sopranos. The descriptions I've read at Sopranos_Fans make me think it's at least possibly worthy from an artistic perspective. Then again, the only series finale that totally blew IMHO was for Seinfeld, so I'm perhaps a bit lenient.

Thanks for posting this on your blog - I heard the same lines about 'when the building collapsed, it was women running out and men running in......' What a disgrace that guy is - thanks again for pointing it out!
I always thought he was a bit sexist, but now that he and his wife are parting ways I'm afraid that is only going to get worse.
I have the same problem like both the before and after show on ESPN. This nit-wit continues to beat down anyone who disagrees with him, has no respect for anyone unless a male 18-34 with a 6 figure income. He knows zippo about most sports does know a bit about FB but thats it.Real tired of him have no idea how he stays on the air. Some of the problem sits with the producer who allows his attitude.
I totally agree with you. For the life of me I cannot understand the guy who calls in to the show and the first thing he says is, "Hey Colin, love your show."
From a purely rhetorical perspective, is the nation so full of half-brained, dimwits that it can sustain a no-talent bag of wind such as Cowherd for this long?
I think it says something about ESPN and its leadership, to force an intellectual guy like Kornheiser out in favor of the douchebag that is Cowherd.
I completely agree, while Colin makes good comments many times for the most part he is the most intolerant people on radio. He in now way believes any pne person can change themselves are work to improve. This is all probably an excuse as to why he has the same education as my 5 year old cousin, and the same level of tolerance as a 79 year old Alabama klan member.
Yeah...he is definitely the absolute worst...gr8 job...keep up the gr8 work
cowherd's the man, you're all a bunch of wussies that can't handle the real of the herd baby! he gets straight to the point and doesn't beat around the bush. He says what's on his mind and usually it's either thought provoking, entertaining, funny or all three. Sometimes he says things that are controversial but he only does it to get the response from you douche bags usually and that is funny to 90% of the listeners, and u other 10% just don't get it. braaaaaaaaahhhh
As much as marcd333 said it in an obnoxious way, you're taking the show and yourself too seriously. I find it entertaining, even when I am on the side that disagrees with him. I've never heard him say anything that I thought was legitimately offensive. A lot of the things you're complaining about are obviously facetious. My advice: Lighten up or never enter a comedy club.
Wow...don't listen to him if you don't like him. There are plenty of choices out there. It's entertainment! He's never boring, he doesn't break down the NBA or MLB like you'd probably want him to, loser. I find it interesting. I can't tell you how sick of Mike and Mike I am. That's boring radio. The day Dan Patrick quit was one of the highlights of my summer. I'm so sick of him and Keith Oberman. Thank you for quitting.
Anyways, you all need to get a life and stop worrying about womens rights. They'll be fine.
I can take or leave Colin Cowherd. As some of the comments say, you can always turn off the switch. But the day Keith Olbermann quits will be one of the highlights of my life. That guy is really a jerk!
Wow! Where do I begin?? Some of you guys should have your man cards removed for good. How is this guy sexist? Colin talks about how important woman, children, and animals are more than any sports talk show host I have ever heard and he is sexist?? Kornheiser? This guy is an english teacher, not a sports guy. He, like many of you gets offended over every little thing, grow some ****! About the burning building, you took that way out of context moron, why don't you work on your listening skills before you go ranting your views on the web. 18-34, 6 figure income?? Not true, I have met Colin, the guy is damn funny and intelligent, and what radio host does'nt get info off the net and not site the source every time meatball?? Once again, if you want someone like Kornheiser, go back to class losers. Totally agree about Olbermann, what is this, the democratic national convention?? Man up ladies.
He absolutely hates baseball. EVERY chance he gets, he'll bash baseball, how bad it is, how the NFL is SO superior to baseball. His entire show is about the NFL and College Football. He rarely talks about baseball, even during the playoffs or World Series, except to bash the sport in general. I can't stand the guy.
I like most radio shows, you can say I listen to radio more than watching actual television. I wake up at 7:30 in the morning; I usually listen to Mike and Mike. There alright, entertaining and funny, but I can't help to notice they bite their tongue on certain subjects. It drives me insane how they can be so "PC".I know with Colin Cowherd you will get the good and the bad. The man speaks with emotion, that's what I look for in a radio show...You know personality!
It is people like you who make situations out of nothing. You don't like the guy because he offended "women". Oh boy, don't go crying to mom now. You can do what you did and turn the dial lady. ESPN is not going to fire the guy because some schmo like you didn't like what he said. He generates ratings (and blogs like yours) and that means he is doing his job, and he is doing it well. So until he pulls a Don Imus, or Michael Richards, he isn't going anywhere, and you can tune your dial to another station. Grow up.
Colin is like a shock-jock. I don't think anyone takes him serious. I get a kick out of listening to him for a short time, because he says things that are totally outlandish. He does this to get a reaction, and obviously it works. If he had to rely on his intelectual capability he wouldn't make it. I didn't realize his wife was leaving him. He must have bored her to death. Just listen in small amounts you will find it funny. Not very infomative, but funny.
He's fantastic!He should do 12 hour shifts...
Colin is a radio mastermind.
Who else are you going to listen to? Kornheiser? Kornheiser is a repetitive nitwit who has never had his own opinion.
Cowherd is honest. This is the only reason I applaud ESPN for keeping someone with INTEGRITY on the air. He bashes baseball because it needs it. Baseball and the NHL are the two lowest drawing sports right now, and they are hardly watchable.
Find his put-down of UVA Football, and take it to heart. You dont like it, go like baseball loser.
I know this post is a few months old but I just came across it. I wrote a post in my blog a few months back about how Cowherd and Kuselias are both sexists. ESPN Radio is a joke. Mike & Mike, Max Kellerman and Mike Tirico are the only ones worth listening to.
For anybody that spends any signficicant time listening to Cowherd, it would be ridiculous to take this blog serious with an owner that is a feminist and with a name like 'Serious Dismay Sports'. Chances are that most people on this site have something negative to say. The man may teeter on the edge of inappropriateness, but has never crossed any boundaries. He'll be in good shape as long as he doesn't screw this up and as long as he stays off tv, because he is ugly! Keep up the good work, Herd!
SAw your post and my intial thought is "Right on! Give this sh**h**e hell!" Colin Cowturd (as we grew to call him when he was the local sprts-ass here at KGW in Portland, OR) is a complete and utter fool. His knowledge of sports... any kind of sports is so lacking that he takes lessons from his daughter on how th infield fly rule is applied. His wife explains how the three-point arc is different between college in the pros in simple mon-syllabic words that he can understand. To call this man a jerk is an insult to jerks everywhere.
My initial thought to reading this post was: Right on!
cowturd (as he was locally known here in Portland, OR as the sportass at KGW) is a fool, a tool and genuine-article dumbass. But he is what passes for 'knowledge' these days: Screw accuracy as long as you are controversial. As a result, I ignore him and listen to NPR. At least they have a habit of being correct.
Boohoo...Cry me a river. I like Cowherd. He's honest and has personality. Plus, like someone stated earlier, he is a total shock jock. Thats his job, this is the way he gets some of best ratings amongst other sport radio personalities. He has to be smart, he acknowledges USC football as one of the best in the country! BTW...we don't need women listening to or discussing sports. Most women don't understand sports to begin with. NHL and MLB don't deserve anytime on the radio. NCAAF and NFL is the way to go.

Sure is easy to make inflammatory comments like this when your blog is blocked to people who aren't registered readers....wouldn't want to get any negative feedback on your own site, now would you?
