In which I engage a troll.
So back in June, I ranted about how I dislike Colin Cowherd. I'm still getting comments on this post, primarily from people I gather are his fans. (I'm curious how they found me because I am fairly sure that the people reading me and the people who listen to Mr. Cowherd are not groups of people who intersect all that often.)
Basically, I'm making this post to let everyone know I've shut the comments on the post off. Because I really just don't care how much you hate women or how you think just because something was supposed to be funny, it wasn't also ill-informed and assholic.
And I'm sure The Herd is going to flock back home and let everyone know that they won because they made me shut off commenting on a post. Good for you. Have fun. Stay there. I don't like you.
However, to address one final comment: "Women suck at talking about sports."
1. Maybe you suck at listening to women.
2. Women are socialized to downplay their knowledge and to Not Argue with men. If we got into arguments about sports with you all the time, you'd just call us shrews anyway.
3. A lot of guys also suck at talking about sports. Sturgeon's Law and all that.
4. I will concede that because men are more likely than women to have played sports a great deal as a kid, they will have a different perspective when discussing sports that many women will not have. This is not a lack on the part of women, but on the part of a society that does not encourage the same level of competitive physical activity in girls as it does in boys.
5. I cannot believe I'm engaging a troll.

"Women suck at talking about sports." Thats not what I said. Interpret it as you will. But this what I said "Most women don't understand sports to begin with."
I will not retract this comment. I do believe it. I am not afraid of any negative feedback. I will use football as an example. I can gurantee you that most women don't understand the basic strategy of the game, positions and formations. One of the quotes I often hear from many female friends and other females in general is "I hope Tom Brady wins because he is hot." I don't ever hear them say he should win because he broke the NFL record on a season for touchdowns, he has a very high QB rating, and he is virtually undefeated in the post season. I would be impressed if I heard those kinds of comments. But I don't and if I did, I bet she would be some sort of "manly" women. Now don't get me wrong Jen, I love women, they are great company; but not great sports company. I know there is always exceptions to the rule, noticed the word I used was "most women."
You must know a different brand of woman than I do, then. Or maybe you're hearing the aside "And he's cute too" we often add in our conversations as "HE'S HOT AND THAT'S THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS." Because we're not blind; we're going to notice if we think an athlete is attractive. That doesn't mean we don't understand a lot of other things about sports.
I don't discriminate, I speak to a lot of different type of women. I'm actually a good listener, and thats exactly what I hear. As I recall you misquouted me on your blog. Shall I remind you of the quote you said as the oppose of the quote I said? I try not to miss any commentary and I don't add any commentary. I understand that women aren't blind, but it has absolute no relevance in a sports discussion. Especially when thats all they say.
Okay, then by your points, I don't know a man who can discuss women's tennis, softball, or women's basketball.
Anytime you'd like to discuss womens tennis feel free to contact me. I love tennis and play it four times a week. Softball and women's basketball doesn't have a large enough market, so its not in the news as much. Especially when it's competing against men's basketball and baseball.
I actually did not like Colin at first either. Couldn't stand him. But the more I listened to him, the more he made sense. Even so, I still like Erik Kuselias better.
